Being Headteacher of Sackville School is a great privilege. The community is reflective and very ambitious; we challenge and support each other with high expectations. All students are offered the chance to learn and grow together with the right to be listened to and express themselves. Our examination results over recent times speak for themselves; indeed, in 2016 we achieved some of the highest results in West Sussex, being fifth in the county for GCSE progress and top in the county for progress to A level, with over half of all grades at B, A or A*. Last summer (2017) our GCSE results saw us beat targets set to ensure we were in the top 20% of schools by the Fischer Family Trust, a charity whose mission is to ensure schools work to fulfill the potential of every child.
We have received three national awards in recognition of our results as well as entry into the Good Schools’ Guide. There is a really cheerful determination here to work hard for each and every individual and thereby maximise her/his chances of success.
Our most recent Ofsted inspection in 2015 was very successful and we are a national ‘leading edge’ school for the second year running, which is testament to the high quality of teaching and ethos of ‘together we achieve’.
Our numbers may be large, but students and parents are continually struck by our ‘small community’ culture, friendliness and respect. As a parent of a year 11 student commented:
“Sackville has been a great school in so many ways for all my children. The last parents’ evening was an amazing experience. I really felt that every teacher had been so much more than ‘just a teacher’.”
Inspectors commented that “Students behave well, are polite and welcoming and proud of their school. In the great majority of lessons, student behaviour is exemplary.” We are also a recipient of Unicef’s ‘Rights Respecting Award’ which endorses these values.
Our large, vibrant and high achieving Sixth Form is a wonderful asset to the school. Older students help those in the younger years to develop and progress well and our extensive extra curricular programme of clubs, trips, visits and community links give many opportunities for this work to flourish. Our aim is always to provide, relentlessly, a fine education that prepares our young people well for their future in a challenging yet exciting world.
Sackville is a school which continually evaluates its work with a sense of confidence, openness and honesty. We value the views of all our stakeholders and, in this sense, we particularly value the work of our Parents’ Focus Group.
This website has been designed to give you an insight into the school as well as providing important information on a regularly-updated basis. The newsletters can be accessed by clicking on the ‘Parents’ tab on the toolbar and selecting ‘Sackville News’. This is where I frequently communicate directly with parents. Students and parents also have important access to ‘Show my Homework’ and ‘Google Apps’.
Sackville is a great place to learn and a great place to work. If you are starting to consider our popular and heavily subscribed school for your child, you are very welcome to arrange a visit at any time. We look forward to showing you around.
